Frequently Asked Question regarding the New Instructor Development Program
1. If I have NCCP Level 1 or A do I have to take the Fundamental course?
- Yes, the Fundamental course cover not only what you took in the NCCP 1 or A course but also what was covered in NCCP 2 or B as well as sailing theory.
2. If I have NCCP A & B do I have to take the Fundamental Course?
- No, You have already completed the neccessary theory in the NCCP and the Green and Blue Courses
3. Can I take NCCP multisport theory courses offered in my community?
- No, the Fundamental course is a sailing specific theory course and there are many elements that will not be covered in a multisport theory course. Ontairo Sailing will make its best efforts to offer Fundamental courses across the province to make them accessible.
4. Do I have to be certified as a White Sail Coach to become a Bronze Sail Coach?
-No, The new instuctor Development model allows instructor candidates to enter the system where they would like, as long as they have the neccessary expereince. However, since the system is no longer linear as the Green, Blue, Red, system was then the Level that you are certified at is the only level of student that you can certify. eg. If you are only certified as a Bronze Sail Coach then you can only certify Bronze Level students and not White Sail students
5. Why is Red no longer being offered?
- Red was part of the old system and has been replaced by 2 different courses, the Program Manager Module teaches a candidate how to run a LTS program,(budgeting, hiring, etc) and the Learn-To-Race, which teaches candidate how to coach entry level racers
6. What happens to my old Levels?
- Your old levels are still current until the original expiry date. When you decide to upgrade your certification you will then be entered into the new system.
7. I just took an NCCP B course, is it still good or did I waste my money?
- If you have just taken an NCCP B course or plan on taking one prior to December 31st 2008 then it will still be recognized as good and to integrate into the new system you must do the free Making Ethical Decisions online evaluation. Click here to take the evaluation.
8. I just took an NCCP A course, in preparation for the 2009 season, is it good or did I waste my money?
If you took an NCCP A course prior to December 31st 2008 then you will still have to take the Fundamental Course, however you will receive a $100 credit towards the Fundamental Course after you have registered and sent in proof of the NCCP A completion. You must register first at the full rate and then once proof of completion is sent in then you will receive a refund cheque. This refund only applies to those students who have taken the course in preparation for taking White Sail Coach in 2009.
9. I did my Fundamental Course some time ago and I have not receive my Coaching number yet to complete my online Ethical Evaluation. What do I do?
Your information has been sent to the Coaching Association of Canada however they are having issues with their new database and getting numbers out in a timely fashion. You will not be required to complete the Online Ethical evaluation until the database issues are solved and you have been issued a number. You will still be able to take the technical clinics and become certified.
10. What do I need to take to satisfy the Competition Development Theory (for my Orange level) since NCCP Theory 3 is no longer offered?
The old NCCP Level 3 Theory course has been phased out (as of Spring 2009) and replaced by 6 new modules. It has been decided that of the 6 modules, the following 4 will be mandatory in order to receive Level 3 equivalency: Psychology of Performance, Developing Athletic Abilities, Prevention and Recovery of Injury, and Coaching and Leading Effectively.
