Becoming a Coach
 
 
Are you a fan of competition? Do you want to motivate other to do their best? Then becoming a CYA Certified coach is the thing for you. You can coach at a club level or you can make it all the way to the Olympic level.
 
 
The Learn To Race Coach clinic encompasses training on skill progression, detection and correction, curriculum planning, teaching methodology, roles and responsibilities of a coach, and evaluation both on and off the water.
As part of the C.B.E.T. (Competency Based Education Training), the LTR focuses on maximizing training time and minimizing classroom time.
 
Approximate Training Time: 210 hours + 50 hour coaching course
 
 
The Orange (Level III) Race Coach clinic develops candidates into high performance coaches. Course content takes an indepth look at Roles: at Responsibilities of a coach, fundamental principles for the advanced Race Coach, coaching methods, conditioning, preparation, and goal setting, on-shore and on-water preparation for racing, post-race analysis, evaluation, and correction, The Corinthian Spirit, protests and appeals, and seasonal planning and competition/team management.

Approximate Training Time: 260 hours + 50 hour coaching course
 
       
Levels 4 and 5 of the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) represent the highest components of coach education available in Canada. The goal of the NCCP at these levels is to provide coaches with advanced applied training opportunities that meet the highest education and evaluation standards.
 
As a result of their certification at Levels 4 and 5, coaches will demonstrate a thorough understanding of their sport and its demands, from developmental up to the elite or international level. They will also be able to plan, implement, and evaluate a variety of programs and activities aimed at providing an environment, which is optimal for the overall development of the athlete, including those who aspire to and have the potential for international levels of performance.

Approximate Training Time: 2 years part-time through National Coaching Institute Ontario
 
The Basic Keelboat Racing Instructor program allows the instructor to coach candidates at the Basic Keelboat Racing standard level.  The Basic Keelboat Racing standard provides the knowledge necessary to compete in club & local races with a fundamental understanding of the racing rules, protest procedures and applying sailing and seamanship skills in winds up to 20 knots.
 
Approximate Training Timeline:  Current Basic Cruising Instructor or higher + 50 hours for instructor course
