2010  Quest For Gold Elite Team and Ontario Sailing Team
 
Purpose and Goal:   To improve Ontario Sailing’s capability to develop sailors into excellent racers. For Ontario ’s top competitive sailors to achieve recognized athletic excellence as part of their progression towards Canadian Sailing Team status.
 
Overview:  The Ontario Sailing Teams are comprised of:
                    ·         The Quest For Gold Elite Team (QFG Elite Team)
                    ·         The Ontario Sailing Team (OST)
                    -         The Ontario Sailing Development Team (OSDT)
                    -         The Ontario Masters Racing Team (OMRT)

Quest For Gold Elite Team
OntarioSailing Team (OST)
 
Overview:  The QFG Elite Team and OST is the top team for athletes seeking to qualify for the Canadian Sailing Team.  It is a requirement for Team Members to be sailing and be part of one of the Ontario Sailing Regional, Development, Paralympic or National Training Centres where your primary coaching will been supplied. 
 
Qualification:  The OST is selected from the top athletes per the “Qualification” and “Membership” categories described herein.  You must apply, meet all requirements and be selected in order to be a member of the OST. 
 
Applications for 2010 will be based on application Critera which are now posted. Please submit ( this application form)  to the Executive Director via email and Program Director via email, mail and/or faxed applications
 
For 2010, applications and Payments must be received no later than Friday March 5th 12:00pm (Noon), 2010.  Late submissions will not be considered. 
 
Athletes must be Ontario residents or have a primary residence in Ontario for at least 8 months for the current competition year
 
Athletes must not be competing or attempting to compete for other jurisdictions per that competition year
 
Athlete results and dedication to training will be considered for qualification to the team. Only results where the athlete placed in the top half of the registered fleet will be used for team selection evaluation. All other finishes will not be considered.
 
For 2008 and beyond, athletes must participate at one of the following:   CORK (consisting of a minimum of 3 races to count) or the National Qualifying Regatta or the Class North Americans plus 3 of the 6 Ontario Racing Series regattas and Provincail Championships
 
Membership:  The make up of the OST is based on the Olympic qualification boats for the current and, where relevant, next quadrennial as follows:
 
Single Handed
Male Laser 4 members
Female Laser Radial 4 members
Double Handed
Male Olympic Classes 4 members
Female Olympic Classes 4 members
Other
Male or Female who meet the criteria that do not fit into the above categories  up to 4 members
 
Where there are insufficient numbers of Olympic class applicants, athletes sailing Classes that are used in Youth Worlds or Canada Games classes will be considered
 
Support and Fees:  OST fees are $700 per person and cover the following items:
 
Coaching and Skill Development with the Centre Coach and the Ontario Sailing Coach:
On- and off-water coaching at training and competition events   
Acces to winter training and coaching, typically held in Florida as part of Winter training in cooperation with our training centres
Coordinated planning for skill-building with primary training coach
Access to training opportunities in cunjunction with our training centres
 
Fitness Development:
Sailing and fitness training plan consultations at the Centres
 
Regatta Logistics Support:
Priority for the athlete’s boat and equipment on the OST trailer for camps and regattas
 
Notes:  For your information, please note:
Athletes selected for the team must commit to their team camp, training and competitive plan for the remainder of their selection to the OST or face removal from the team subject to the discretion of the OST coach
Athletes must sign the Athlete Agreement per that competition year
Calculations of athletes’ results will be carried out according to the overall results at the regatta and team selections will be made by ranking qualifying athletes in descending order according to their overall scoring positions.
