Ontario Quest for Gold Elite Team Athlete
Wins
North American Challenge Cup!

The North American Challenge Cup took place on August 6th through 9th at the Chicago Yacht Club and one of Ontario's Quest for Gold Elite Team athletes took first place overall in the 2.4mR class.

Congratulations go out to Nigist Sewnnet who had five first-place finishes, two second-place finishes, a third and a forth place finish over the nine races to earn a first-place finish overall.  Another Quest for Gold Elite Team athlete, Audrey Kobayaski, took fifth overall.

Second place finisher Kristi Walker commented on her tough competition with Sewnnet.  "She made me a better sailor.  I wouldn't have sailed as well without her in the regatta."

Overall conditions for the weekend were varied, from light winds at 5-7 knots up to gusts of over 30 knots causing racing to be abandoned on Sunday.  The variable conditions tested the skills of 36 competitors over three classes.

The North American Challenge Cup is a well-respected sailing regatta for the disabled community that has a 19 year reputation for outstanding competition on a national and international level.  It has grown substantially over the last few years and now includes both disabled and able-bodied now competing in the 2.4.  Local transportation, meals, and social functions are complimentary features of this tremendous event and help to make it the success that it is.
