The Ontario Sailing Ruby Gala – A Fantastic Success!

The Ontario Sailing annual fundraising gala was held on Saturday, March 27th at The Boulevard Club in Toronto. The gala this year was called The Ruby Gala, presented by HKMB/HUB International, in honour of the 40th year of Ontario Sailing.

Approximately 250 sailors and supporters of Ontario Sailing enjoyed an evening filled with fine wine tasting, great food, over 150 silent auction items, a fantastic live auction, the chance to win a Mini Cooper and dancing the night away!

A highlight of the evening was the inaguaral presentation of the “Legends of Ontario Sailing” Award, sponsored by Canadian Yachting Magazine. This award is designed to “honour the past to inspire the future.” The recipients for the first year of the award were the brave crews of Evergreen (RHYC) and Magistri (RCYC) that survived and endured the great storms that hit the 1979 Fastnet race. Many of the crew members and their loved ones were in attendance and some incredible stories were shared from their experience.

With the help of everyone above Ontario Sailing was able to raise $40,000 to go towards the development of sailing in Ontario. A very fitting amount to celebrate the Association’s 40th year!
