Ontario Sailing is excited to announce that we have a new host club for our Main Sail program next year.
Executive Director Glenn Lethbridge shares the details:
“While it seems a long way off, I wanted to let you know that we have a new host club that will be hosting our Main Sail program next year. Champlain Sailing Club, located in Orillia, has formally signed on for 2024. This agreement will see us supporting training starting this Fall as a host club for [CANSail] Fundamental Courses and then Spring for the Community Instructor program.”
Glenn continues that discussions are also underway with Honey Harbour Assosciation (Georgian Bay) to host the program.
“As they are within about 30 minutes of each other, transportation of equipment, etc. and potential sharing of some resources would be a great benefit.”
This year, Stormont Yacht Club in Long Sault, Ontario, has two sold out weeks of programming. As this is their second season working with Ontario Sailing, they hope to get their own equipment for next year. Ontario Sailing has also been working closely with Little Current Yacht Club (Manitoulin Islands). LCYC was announced earlier this year as a receipient of the Rhoda Ironside Fund; the financial support as well as Ontario Sailing’s support with training instructors has resulted in seven weeks of programming booked for this summer.
The Main Sail program has been incredibly successful to date. Cedar Island Yacht Club has six sold out weeks of programming this summer and Port Stanley Sailing Squadron is also offering youth and adult lessons.
Ontario Sailing would also like to acknowledge the volunteers at clubs like these who ‘champion’ programs such as these. These champions are truly the backbone of any well-run Learn to Sail program, and we thank all of those who have taken on the role!
