The Canadian Olympic Sailing Team has headed home after competing in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo over the past couple of weeks.

We’re so proud of how Team Canada performed in Tokyo. We cheered on the sailors representing Canada right along side their coaches, clubs, families, friends, and the entire sailing community and we want to express our congratulations to each member of the team. You should all be very proud!

Your work ethic and your dedication shone through and we thank you for representing your clubs, your provinces, and your country in such an inspiring way. Your positive contribution to the sport of Sailing will live on for years to come.

As we encourage new sailors to take to the water and to find their joy of sailing, we need to remember that this is how these athletes started. Encourage those around you to take advantage of the many sailing programs and offerings available – young and old – there’s so much to gain! For a select few, their joy of sailing results in a trip to the Olympic Games. For most, however, their joy of sailing results in a lifetime of activity and comradery with those who share a love for the sport of sailing and being out on the water!

To the 9 athletes who represented Canada – We’re going to take a quote from 5-time Olympic sailor Nikola Girke (when speaking to first time Olympian Sarah Douglas) – “You don’t need to bring back a medal to be a champion!”

You are all Champions in our book!

Congratulations on your journey and your accomplishments!
