Following up on the success last year, the RCYC is pleased to announce that we will be hosting the second-annual Youth Olympic-sailing Development Experience regatta and clinic, July 27th - 30th.
This event will focus specifically on the development of youth sailors, and is open to all athletes, regardless of skill level or age. Invited classes are: 29er, 420, Laser, Radial, Optimist Green and Optimist Championship.
The first two days of the event will be a clinic, with coaching by several Olympians & Canadian Sailing Team members This is an excellent opportunity for young athletes to train together with the coaching of some of Canadas best sailors. We recognize that a key element to athlete development is training with those of similar ability, and we hope that by bringing together many sailors, we can divide them into training groups to maximize their learnings from these top level coaches. Tools such as video debriefs, etc. will also be used. We welcome you to bring your own coach as well, as it is an excellent opportunity for them to work with these elite coaches and learn from some of the best.
The second half of the event will be a regatta, allowing athletes to put into practice what they have learned in training. Athletes may also choose to participate in only the regatta, or only the clinic, as they are priced separately.
Included in the total registration price is coaching for the clinic, two days of racing, 3 dinners and 4 breakfasts, as well as snacks both on and off the water each day. Athletes will also receive a t-shirt and other giveaways. We highly suggest pre-registration to ensure that athletes receive a t-shirt, etc. as some quantities may be limited for those who register late. This year we will offer online registration at http://www.rcyc.ca/Doc-Types/Regattas.aspx
The RCYC will provide barges to and from the island for easy transportation of boats, gear etc. to our island facility. Exact times TBA. We will also work to provide charter boats and billeting upon request. Camping is also available on the island, please contact for further details.
We believe that this is an excellent opportunity for sailors across Ontario to come together for 4 days of great sailing, and we encourage all clubs to seriously consider attending. Last year's inaugural event drew praises from athletes, parents, and coaches alike. You can view last year's fun at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsidHS23RL4
and we hope to see you on the water!
