Ontario Sailing along with our national partner, Sail Canada, provides leadership; governance; and standards.

  • Ontario Sailing is a member of Sail Canada and Sail Canada is a member of World Sailing.
  • We are the governing body for sailing in the province of Ontario reporting to the Ministry Tourism Culture and Sport
  • Ontario Sailing is made up of member clubs, sailing schools, Camps and class associations
  • Ontario Sailing members are entitled to all the benefits and services offered by Ontario Sailing and Sail Canada

 

How does your membership matter? 

Of great significance is that Ontario Sailing works together with club members who are part of the community that helps nurture and support the development, safety, growth, and enjoyment of sailing in your town, region, province and country. Members have direct access to full-time staff and volunteers that are here to help!

 

All Sailors            

  • Ontario Sailing is the voice and authority for Ontario sailors in recreational and competitive sailing
  • Ontario Sailing ensures representation regarding issues and proposed changes with Transport Canada and Canadian Coast Guard (i.e. safe boating, PFDs)
  • Ontario Sailing supports opportunities for sailors with a disability

 

Parents                  

Ontario Sailing and Sail Canada offer you:

  • a progressive introduction to sailing for your child,
  • access to qualified instructors
  • regattas organized by certified officials
  • a mobile sailing school
  • a full circuit of dinghy racing & the opportunity to be on the Ontario Sailing Team
  • the possibility of racing in the Ontario Summer Games and Canada Summer Games

 

Cruising sailors     

Ontario Sailing and Sail Canada offer you:

  • access to national courses in cruising
  • access to national trained instructors
  • specialized courses for racing
  • full range of programs from beginner to offshore
  • emphasizing “living afloat” skills in addition to boat handling, safety and navigation
  • all programs include both classroom and on water instruction
  • Administration of LOCCA https://locca.org/

 

Race Officers        

Ontario Sailing and Sail Canada offer you:

  • opportunities to develop new levels of race management
  • development and delivery of Race Official training programs
  • assistance at regattas throughout the year

 

 Racing Sailors       

Ontario Sailing and Sail Canada offer you:

  • support for youth racing through the youth Grand Prix Series
  • opportunities to compete at local, national and international events
  • development of programs to allow people with disabilities to participate and compete
  • races organized by qualified officials
  • judging by trained volunteers
  • protest and appeals process
  • development of racing programs, appeals, and input into the ongoing development of the Racing Rules of Sailing
  • race and compete – as mandated by World Sailing and Racing Rules of Sailing, the right to race is reserved for members of clubs who are members of Sail Canada in provincial, regional, national, and international events
  • promoting high performance sailing success at regional, national, and international levels
  • opportunity to compete at the Olympics including a financial carding system
  • individuals must belong to a member club of Ontario Sailing to be entitled to race under the Racing Rules of Sailing

 

 Event Hosts            

Ontario Sailing and Sail Canada offer you:

  • legitimate use of the Racing Rules of Sailing
  • promotion
  • access to funding opportunities
  • assistance with securing race officials

 

Clubs, Schools, Associations, Fleets    

Ontario Sailing and Sail Canada offer you:

  • opportunity for delivery of Sail Canada programs
  • Full time support of the COAST program https://ontariosailing.ca/coast/
  • trained instructors for you learn to sail programs – instructors, coaches and officials are integral to the successful delivery of our programs
  • educational courses in mark set, judging, and organizing
  • opportunity to host provincial, regional, national, and international events
  • club Insurance programs
  • Sail Canada R.C. Stevenson Memorial Boat Loan Fund
  • charitable Tax Receipts through Sail Canada
  • opportunity to be involved in determining the direction of sailing and boating in Ontario
  • opportunity for “Get out on the Water” program to help Clubs introduce individuals to the sport of sailing (potential new club members)
  • expanded participation in sailing and recreational boating in Ontario

  • programs for all ages and stages, many developed right in Ontario
  • Ontario Sailing/Sail Canada programs that follow the Long-Term Sailor Development model mandated by Sport Canada
