JUDGES

Sail Canada’s Judge Program has been developed to provide qualified, trained individuals to act as judges and protest committee chairs. To be certified as a Club Judge you must complete a Sail Canada Club Judge Seminar and apply for certification. Ontario Sailing delivers several Sail Canada Club Judge Seminars throughout the year. Once an individual completes the Sail Canada Club Judge Seminar and gains practical experience, they can apply for Club Judge Certification. RACE OFFICERS

Assistant Race Officer (ARO)

An Assistant Race Officer is capable of assisting in the running of a race as a member of the Race Committee. To be certified as an Assistant Race Officer, you must complete a Sail Canada Assistant Race Officer Course. Ontario Sailing delivers several Sail Canada ARO courses throughout the year. 

Club Race Officer (CRO)

A Club Race Officer manages the on the water activities of regattas at the club level. You must also submit an application for certification including a record of practical experience in Race Committee organization. Ontario Sailing delivers several Sail Canada CRO Race Management courses throughout the year. Once an individual completes the Sail Canada CRO Race Management Course and gains practical experience, they can apply for Club Race Officer Certification. MARK LAYERS

Assistant Mark Layer (AML)

An Assistant Mark Layer is capable of assisting a mark layer as a member of the Race Committee. Certification requires successful completion of the Sail Canada Assistant Mark Layer Course. Once an individual completes the Sail Canada Assistant Mark Layer Course and gains practical experience, they can apply for Assistant Mark Layer Certification. Mark Layer (ML)

A Mark Layer is capable of managing the mark laying operations of a regatta as part of the Race Committee. Certification requires successful completion of the Sail Canada Mark Layer course and experience as a Mark Layer at a minimum of 2 provincial or higher-level regattas. Once an individual completes the Sail Canada Mark Layer Course and gains practical experience including 2 provincial or higher-level regattas, they can apply to Sail Canada for Mark Layer Certification.
