On May 17, 2023, Sail Canada announced the list of sailors who will be part of the 2023-2024 Canadian Sailing Team and Canadian Sailing Development Squad. The list includes ten sailors from Ontario:
Balasubramanian, Annalise (Royal Canadian Yacht Club) – Canadian Sailing Development Squad (ILCA 6)
Barnes, Justin (Royal Canadian Yacht Club) – Canadian Sailing Development Squad (ILCA 6)
Bonin, Samuel (Royal Canadian Yacht Club) – Canadian Sailing Development Squad (49er)
Bruce, William (Port Credit Yacht Club) – Canadian Sailing Development Squad (ILCA 7)
Douglas, Sarah (Ashbridge’s Bay Yacht Club) – Canadian Sailing Team (ILCA 6)
Gravely, Clara (Ashbridge’s Bay Yacht Club) – Canadian Sailing Development Squad (ILCA 6)
Juhasz, Robert (Oakville Yacht Squadron) – Canadian Sailing Development Squad (ILCA 7)
Millen, Mariah (Royal Canadian Yacht Club) – Canadian Sailing Team (49erFX)
Moffat, Arie (Kingston Yacht Club) – Canadian Sailing Development Squad (49er)
Ten Hove, Alexandra (Kingston Yacht Club) – Canadian Sailing Team (49erFX)
This year’s Canadian Sailing Team and Development Squad are comprised of four new members, including Ontario Sailing Team athlete Annalise Balasubramanian, who placed 12th at the 2022 Youth Sailing World Championships. Annalise is an experienced member of the Ontario Sailing Team and coaches Chris Hewson and Victoria Stafford are proud of Annalise’ progression on the high performance pathway.
The Ontario Sailing Team has ten athletes on its current roster, including Annalise, who represent the top competitive dinghy sailors in the province. Having a sailor advance from the club level, to the Ontario Sailing Team, to the National level is a testament to the quality programming and coaching of the Ontario Sailing Team, the benefit of the support the team receives from partnerships such as the Canadian Sport Institite Ontario and the team’s new host site, Ashbridge’s Bay Yacht Club, and of course the consistent effort and hard work by the athletes.
